Drywall Estimate Template for Excel

The sheet count is the easy part of a drywall takeoff. Screws, joint compound, and tape get guessed, waste gets forgotten, and hanging and finishing get priced at one rate even though they run at very different speeds.

The KlipPack Drywall Estimate & Takeoff Template is an Excel workbook with 3 sheets and 22 formulas that turns board area into sheets, consumables, hang and finish hours, and a priced bid on one Estimate sheet.

What's inside

Sheets from board area

Wall and ceiling square footage plus waste (10% by default), rounded up to whole sheets at the size you choose: 32 square feet for 4x8 or 48 for 4x12.

Consumables auto-fill

Screws at about one pound per two sheets, joint compound at one box per 450 square feet, and tape at one roll per 1,500 square feet. The ratios sit in the formulas, so you can edit them. Corner bead is a count you enter.

Hang and finish priced separately

A hang rate (150 square feet per hour by default) and a finish-to-level-4 rate (100 by default), each turned into hours at your burdened labor rate.

Bid and margin

Markup (20% by default) on total direct cost gives the bid price, gross profit, and gross margin.

Price Book

12 drywall line items (hang 1/2 inch and 5/8 inch fire-rated, finish to level 4 and level 5, ceilings, patch and repair, corner bead, knockdown and orange peel texture, soundproofing board, access panels, haul and dispose) with blank unit-price cells.

Who it's for

Drywall subcontractors and remodelers who hang and finish their own board and want sheets, consumables, and labor priced from one entry.

Who it's not for

A full remodel with several trades and overhead allocation; the Contractor Estimating & Job-Profit System is the better file for that.

FAQ

Does it count sheets, mud, and tape?

Yes. It adds waste to your board area, rounds to whole sheets at your sheet size, and fills in screws, joint compound boxes, and tape rolls from the board area.

Can I change the rules of thumb?

Yes. The 450 and 1,500 square-foot ratios and the two-sheets-per-pound screw rule are written in the Estimate formulas, so you can match them to what your crew actually uses.

Does it work in Google Sheets?

Yes. It is a plain .xlsx with standard formulas and no macros.

Is there a version for multi-trade jobs?

Yes. The Contractor Estimating & Job-Profit System covers materials, labor, subs, overhead, and a client proposal across trades.

Estimates are only as good as the prices and production rates you enter. You are responsible for checking every bid before you send it.
