Painting Estimate Template for Excel

Interior painting bids usually go wrong in the takeoff: openings not deducted, coats not multiplied, then a gallon short on the last wall. Pricing by the room or by feel hides those mistakes until the job is finished.

The KlipPack Interior Painting Estimate Template is an Excel workbook with 3 sheets and 15 formulas that turns room measurements into a paint order, labor hours, and a priced bid on one Estimate sheet.

What's inside

Surface takeoff

Total wall length times ceiling height, minus door and window openings, plus ceiling area if you are painting it, multiplied by the number of coats (2 by default).

Paint order in whole cans

From your coverage per gallon (350 by default) the sheet rounds the gallons up to whole cans. Primer gallons and a sundries lump sum (tape, plastic, brushes, rollers) are your inputs; sales tax applies to materials.

Labor hours

A production rate in square feet per hour including cut-in (200 by default) and your burdened rate give labor hours and cost.

Bid and margin

Markup (20% by default) on total direct cost gives the bid price, gross profit, and gross margin.

Price Book

12 interior line items (walls at 2 coats, ceilings, primer coat, doors both sides, trim, baseboard, crown, closets, cabinets per door or drawer, accent wall, patch and sand, wallpaper removal) with blank unit-price cells.

Who it's for

Residential painting contractors and remodelers who self-perform interior paint and want a consistent room-to-bid quote.

Who it's not for

Exterior work: there are no siding, soffit, or lift lines. Multi-trade remodels fit the full estimating system better.

FAQ

Does it calculate how much paint to buy?

Yes for paint: enter coverage per gallon and it rounds up to whole cans for your coats. Primer is a separate input where you enter the gallons, since primer use varies by job.

Can I quote one room or a whole house?

Both. The Estimate sheet works from total wall length and height, so you can enter a single room or a whole floor. Per-door, per-foot of trim, and per-closet extras are Price Book items.

Does it work in Google Sheets?

Yes. It is a plain .xlsx with standard formulas and no macros.

Is there a version for multi-trade jobs?

Yes. The Contractor Estimating & Job-Profit System covers materials, labor, subs, overhead, and a client proposal across trades.

Estimates are only as good as the prices and production rates you enter. You are responsible for checking every bid before you send it.
